Phishing alert: what is it?
By Wifirst team on 17 Mar 2025
Phishing is a fraudulent technique used by hackers to obtain sensitive, personal and/or confidential information (bank details, identity theft, etc.) belonging to Internet users. They do this by perfectly reproducing the design of a legitimate commercial site, Internet service provider, bank, etc.
The most widespread form is the sending of a legitimate-looking e-mail, the content of which invites the victim to click on a link to provide confidential information.
These e-mails use the official logos and typefaces of various companies such as banks, e-commerce sites or Internet service providers, and ask the Internet user to click on a hypertext link included in the message. The URL of the link included in the email is also "masked" to appear authentic.
-
Phishing e-mails are usually threatening to their victims, or contain promises or guarantees.
They often contain spelling mistakes, syntax errors or erroneous information about the customer's credentials. -
However, phishing techniques are becoming more sophisticated and modern. The modus operandi remains unchanged, but phony e-mails are becoming less crude, more often written in French and with fewer mistakes.
We recommend that younever click on these links, andnever give out your bank details.
