Our responsible digital tips

Written by Wifirst team | 17 Mar 2025

In an increasingly connected world, adopting responsible digital practices is essential to minimize your environmental impact, improve the security of your data and contribute to a more sustainable use of digital resources. Here are some tailored tips for more responsible digital:

1. Reduce your digital footprint

  • Limit unnecessary streaming and downloading: streaming consumes large amounts of bandwidth and energy. Give preference to downloads, or lower the quality of videos where this is sufficient (e.g. 720p instead of 1080p).
  • Disconnect unused devices: avoid keeping devices connected to Wi-Fi if you're not actively using them, to reduce network energy consumption.
  • Optimize your updates: schedule software updates for your devices during off-peak periods to reduce network load.

2. Protect your personal data

  • Choose secure passwords: use strong, unique passwords to protect your online accounts. Consider using a password manager if necessary.
  • Avoid unsecured public networks: Wifirst offers a secure network, but remain vigilant when using other networks. Avoid sharing sensitive information without a secure connection (HTTPS).
  • Log out of unused sessions: when using a service or site, log out after use to avoid unauthorized access.

3. Adopt sensible digital consumption

  • Avoid excessive use of devices: get into the habit of limiting prolonged sessions in front of screens to preserve your well-being.
  • Favor collaborative tools: share files via the cloud instead of sending e-mails with bulky attachments. This reduces the impact on servers.
  • Recycle your electronic devices: if you replace a connected device, make sure you recycle it properly or donate it if it's still functional.

4. Favour digital sobriety

  • Clean up your devices regularly: delete unnecessary files, e-mails and applications to optimize their performance and reduce energy consumption.
  • Disable unnecessary services: deactivate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or automatic synchronizations on your devices when they're not needed.
  • Plan your heavy usage: download large files or watch offline content during off-peak hours to minimize the impact on the shared network.

Together, let's adopt a more responsible approach to digital use!
